CodeIgniter is an excellent tool to get your projects done quicker and more efficiently than coding everything from scratch.

I've only begun to scratch the surface of CI, (2nd project, 1 month using) but from what I've seen the framework do thus far, i have no doubt I could do whatever I could dream.

The documentation for the framework is incredibly complete and the guys on the forums are real pros who get back to a question of yours in less than 4 hours, usually.

Alternatively, you can look at Kohana if you're into strictly PHP5, but in my experience the documentation for Kohana isn't nearly as complete compared to CI.

Perhaps I've mentioned more than i've needed to, but good luck on your experimentation and happy coding!
